About this Concert

Our November Sensory-Accessible Concerts program brings together cellist Catherine Little and fiddler Brad Reid, joined by pianist and series host Jennifer King, for a spirited performance that blends Cape Breton fiddle traditions with classical cello and piano. The program offers a rich mix of music, where Saint-Saëns’s lyrical “The Swan” and a movement from J. S. Bach’s “Cello Suites” sit comfortably alongside contemporary favourites such as “Rewrite the Stars” from The Greatest Showman, Bill Withers’s soulful “Ain’t No Sunshine,” and the perennial favourite “Blackbird” by Lennon and McCartney. Also in the program are Cape Breton fiddler Natalie MacMaster’s “Christmas Jig,” Wolastoqiyik-Maliseet fiddler and composer Francis Sowish’s “Mouth of the Tobique,” and Reid’s own fiddle solo “Lime Hill." Rounding out the variety are Reid’s original “Ferry Air,” and David Bennett Thomas’s lively, dance-inspired “Calypsodelphia.”

Halifax-born Catherine Little is a versatile cellist, recording artist, and educator whose career spans orchestral, chamber, and cross-genre collaborations. Cape Breton fiddler Brad Reid draws on jazz, classical, and global influences to expand and refresh the traditional sound. Together with Jennifer King at the piano, they bring warmth, virtuosity, and an adventurous spirit to the stage. Co-presented with the Halifax Central Library, this free concert provides a safe and welcoming space for everyone to enjoy live music in a relaxed setting.

Notre programme Sensory-Accessible Concerts du mois de novembre réunit la violoncelliste Catherine Little et le violoniste Brad Reid, accompagnés de la pianiste et animatrice de la série Jennifer King, pour un spectacle entraînant qui mêle les traditions du violon du Cap-Breton au violoncelle et au piano classiques. Le programme comprend également « Christmas Jig » de la violoniste Natalie MacMaster, originaire du Cap-Breton, « Mouth of the Tobique » du violoniste et compositeur Francis Sowish, membre de la communauté Wolastoqiyik-Maliseet, ainsi que « Lime Hill », un solo de violon composé par Reid lui-même. Pour compléter cette sélection variée, on retrouve « Ferry Air », une composition originale de Reid, et « Calypsodelphia », une pièce entraînante inspirée de la danse, composée par David Bennett Thomas.

Née à Halifax, Catherine Little est une violoncelliste polyvalente, artiste de studio et enseignante dont la carrière couvre des collaborations orchestrales, de musique de chambre et interdisciplinaires. Le violoniste du Cap-Breton Brad Reid s'inspire du jazz, de la musique classique et d'influences mondiales pour élargir et rafraîchir le son traditionnel. Accompagnés de Jennifer King au piano, ils apportent chaleur, virtuosité et esprit d'aventure sur scène. Co-présenté avec la bibliothèque centrale de Halifax, ce concert gratuit offre un espace sûr et accueillant où chacun peut profiter de la musique live dans une ambiance détendue.
