This magnificent concert unites pianist Silvie Cheng – our 2022/23 Musician-In-Residence – with an extraordinary cello trio comprised of the prizewinning cellist of the 2022 Queen Elisabeth International Competition, Bryan Cheng, composer, cellist, and newest member of Kronos Quartet Paul Wiancko, and GRAMMY Award-winning cellist and composer Andrew Yee. The superstar cello trio performs a program, in various configurations with Silvie, which includes Pulitzer Prize-winning composer Caroline Shaw's The Wheel, David Popper's highly moving Requiem for 3 celli and piano, Astor Piazzolla’s Le Grand Tango, original arrangements of Pablo Casals' traditional Catalan carol Song of the Birds, Duke Ellington’s Such Sweet Thunder, Edvard Grieg's beloved Peer Gynt Suite, and as well as the Atlantic premiere of Paul Wiancko's Sonata No. 1 for Cello and Piano, commissioned by and written for Cheng² Duo in 2020, and is here to be performed by the composer himself!
