About this Concert
Our first Sensory-Accessible Concerts program of the new year offers a fresh take on the music of Swedish supergroup ABBA, as members of OperAtlantic blend classical artistry with the pulse of pop. Sopranos Suzanne Rigden and Elizabeth Humphries, tenor Glen Nowell, and bass Kurt Sampson join pianist Tara Scott to reimagine familiar songs with warmth and vitality, revealing the emotion and storytelling that make ABBA’s music so timeless. The program moves through some of ABBA’s biggest hits in unexpected and expressive ways. “Take a Chance on Me” bursts with playful momentum, while “Chiquitita” unfolds with tenderness and quiet resilience. “Super Trouper” carries an undercurrent of determination, its brightness edged with strength, and “Knowing Me, Knowing You” lingers on moments of honesty and change. In “The Winner Takes It All,” emotion and poise intertwine, and “Thank You for the Music” becomes a joyful nod to creativity and connection. “Happy New Year” balances reflection with hope, and “Dancing Queen,” always an audience favourite, fills the space with rhythm, warmth, and an energy that’s impossible to resist.
OperAtlantic is a collective of local artists redefining opera in Atlantic Canada through performances that connect, surprise, and welcome audiences into the experience. Pianist Tara Scott, one of the region’s leading collaborative artists, guides the ensemble through these vibrant interpretations with insight and imagination. Presented in a relaxed, sensory-friendly setting, this free concert invites everyone to experience live music in comfort. Co-presented with the Halifax Central Library, and hosted by pianist Jennifer King, it’s a joyful start to the year that brings people together through song and shared celebration.

Notre premier programme de Sensory-Accessible Concerts de la nouvelle année propose une nouvelle approche de la musique du supergroupe suédois ABBA, les membres d'OperAtlantic mêlant l'art classique au rythme de la pop. Les sopranos Suzanne Rigden et Elizabeth Humphries, le ténor Glen Nowell et la basse Kurt Sampson se joignent à la pianiste Tara Scott pour réinventer des chansons familières avec chaleur et vitalité, révélant l'émotion et la narration qui rendent la musique d'ABBA si intemporelle. Le programme passe en revue certains des plus grands succès d'ABBA de manière inattendue et expressive. « Take a Chance on Me » déborde d'un élan enjoué, tandis que « Chiquitita » se déploie avec tendresse et une résilience tranquille. « Super Trouper » véhicule un courant sous-jacent de détermination, sa luminosité teintée de force, et « Knowing Me, Knowing You » s'attarde sur des moments d'honnêteté et de changement.
