About this Concert

Horn player and vocalist Natalie Alcorn joins jazz guitarist Richard White and pianist and series host Jennifer King for a program that brings classical repertoire into conversation with jazz standards and contemporary works. Robert Schumann’s “Adagio and Allegro,” Op. 70 shows off the horn’s full range, moving from spacious, lyric writing into quicksilver passagework that is a conversation with the piano. Franz Strauss’s “Notturno,” Op. 7 leans into a more intimate mood, with long melodic arcs and a warm, late-Romantic glow. Hoagy Carmichael’s “The Nearness of You” offers the kind of close, unhurried phrasing that suits the mellow combination of voice and electric guitar. Bobby Troup’s “Route 66” brings a light, forward-moving swing, and Billie Eilish’s “My Future,” heard here in a jazz arrangement, shifts the song into a new frame. Fred Rogers’ “It’s You I Like” adds a moment of simple sincerity, with the kind of direct message that lands differently when it’s sung in a room with other people. Presented in a sensory-friendly environment, this concert offers a relaxed, welcoming space to listen, settle in, and experience live music at your own pace.

Natalie Alcorn is known for her versatility as both a horn player and vocalist, with classical training from McGill University, she also holds a Masters of Music from the New England Conservatory. She is a member of the Stadacona Band, has performed across Canada and internationally, and can often be found playing in the horn section of Symphony Nova Scotia. She has also performed with the Boston Philharmonic, Ottawa Symphony, Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, Montreal’s Altsys Jazz Orchestra and the Montreal Symphony Orchestra. Richard White is a Canadian guitarist who works across jazz standards, pop, and original music, with a background in theatre and vocal performance. Jennifer King is a CBC-featured pianist whose recording “O Mistress Moon: Canadian Edition” won Classical Album of the Year at the 2023 East Coast Music Awards, and whose latest album “Souvenance” is nominated for two 2026 East Coast Music Awards.

La corniste et chanteuse Natalie Alcorn se joint au guitariste jazz Richard White et à la pianiste et animatrice de la série Jennifer King pour un programme qui met en dialogue le répertoire classique, les standards de jazz et des œuvres contemporaines. « Adagio et Allegro », op. 70 de Robert Schumann met en valeur toute l’étendue du cor, passant d’un lyrisme ample à des passages rapides et brillants qui dialoguent avec le piano. Le « Notturno », op. 7 de Franz Strauss adopte une atmosphère plus intime, portée par de longues lignes mélodiques et une chaleur propre au romantisme tardif. « The Nearness of You » de Hoagy Carmichael se prête à un phrasé souple et rapproché, idéal pour l’alliance feutrée de la voix et de la guitare électrique. « Route 66 » de Bobby Troup apporte un swing léger et entraînant, tandis que « My Future » de Billie Eilish, présenté ici dans un arrangement jazz, place la chanson dans un nouvel éclairage. « It’s You I Like » de Fred Rogers ajoute un moment de sincérité simple, avec un message direct qui prend une dimension particulière lorsqu’il est partagé en salle. Natalie Alcorn est reconnue pour sa polyvalence comme corniste et chanteuse. Formée en musique classique à l’Université McGill, elle détient également une maîtrise en musique du New England Conservatory. Membre de la Stadacona Band, elle s’est produite à travers le Canada et à l’international, et joue régulièrement au sein du pupitre de cors de Symphony Nova Scotia. Elle a aussi collaboré avec le Boston Philharmonic, l’Ottawa Symphony, le Newfoundland Symphony Orchestra, l’Altsys Jazz Orchestra de Montréal et l’Orchestre symphonique de Montréal. Richard White est un guitariste canadien qui interprète des standards de jazz, de la musique pop et des œuvres originales, avec un parcours en théâtre et en chant. Jennifer King est une pianiste mise en valeur par CBC dont l’enregistrement « O Mistress Moon: Canadian Edition » a remporté le prix de l’Album classique de l’année aux East Coast Music Awards 2023, et dont le plus récent album, « Souvenance », est en nomination pour deux prix aux East Coast Music Awards 2026.
